Humans Judge Others, Wrongly, On ANYTHING and EVERYTHING

Those who are aware of the human tendency to make gigantic, completely baseless assumptions about others are also aware of how far-reaching the effects of it are on individuals. Here is an example of that in the following article in Business Insider, about naming your child so he or she has a better chance at success in life.
Because OTHERS will make huge, ridiculous assumptions about a person based on nothing but their name, and so will the person themselves, about themselves.
The human brain associates things together, whether it's right or wrong, in order to "keep track" of the world.
The "keeping track" is the brain's priority, not whether we are right or wrong about whatever we're keeping track of.
And that's all of us. Not just some of us.

Even five-year-olds judge their peers based on their names

Making decisions based strictly on names, four- and five-year-olds told Jack Daniel, a professor of communication at the University of Pittsburgh, that Sarah is smarter than Shaniqua, that they would rather play with Megan than Tanisha, and that Jamal was more likely to take a bite out of their sandwich than Adam.

My Point Of View Is The Only Correct Point Of View

"This is what I like, so you should like it too.

This is what I believe, so you should believe it too.

This is what I think, so you should think it too.

This is how I see you, so you should see yourself this way too.

This is how I see myself, so you should see me exactly the same way.

This is what I think is best, and you should follow my lead.

...if you don't, you're not smart, logical, intelligent, wise, or mature.

...if you don't agree with me, and align your thoughts and feelings with mine, then you must be rebelling against me or attacking me.

...if you don't let me be the leader at all times in all things, (unless I assign you to be the leader for something), then I will attack you.

...if you do or say anything that leads me to feel uncomfortable for any reason, I will attack or reject you.

My point of view is the only point of view, and only I get to decide who else has any intelligence, knowledge, skill, ability, strength, or wisdom.
It certainly won't ever be you; you are lower status than me, because I've decided that you are.

Anything you say or do that's not in alignment with what I think, want, and feel will be considered WRONG, and either a rebellion against me or an attack against me personally.

I will not discuss it with you, I will attack you or reject you.

And if you protest the way I "deal with you", I will simply do more of it until I feel like I've beaten you down, or until I run out of energy, or until I lose interest and focus on someone or something else.

These are not only the POV from just one type of disorder or illness, but from several. Which one(s), if any, a person may have depends on a large number of factors. A lot of personality disorder or mental illness traits (not all) are exaggerated versions of regular human tendencies, and may have been fixed in place at some point in time, or may have been exacerbated and turned around. Some of these behaviors and traits may have simply been taught to the person during their upbringing. (And not excluding the simplest explanation, a lack of learning and opportunity to mature because of one's surrounding environment, or literally because a person is still a child.)

Regardless of what disorder, illness, or maturity level the behaviors come from, the key points are more about us :

How we react to these behaviors

How they affect us

If we have or do some of them

How we are dealing with them

If we and others are safe

Healing from the effects

Dealing with them in a healthy way

Love Is Blind; So Is Hate

We talk all the time about how LOVE blinds us to reality about other people, and how infatuation blinds us as well. But we avoid talking about how HATE is just as blinding as LOVE.
We can't see something or someone clearly if we're infatuated with them or if we favor them.
And neither can we see something or someone clearly if we hate.

It's two sides of the same coin.

Hate does not awaken a person's senses or logic.
Anger can, but hate does not.
It acts as a veil over the eyes.

If Love is like a veil of light that makes a people and situations look brighter or colored like roses, sunshine, or blue skies, Hate is like a veil of darkness that makes people and situations look dimmer, more sinister, and blocks out detail and real information.

Both Love and Hate give a person a feeling of power;

Love can make us feel like we can accomplish our goals with ease, like we're beautiful, brilliant, strong, wanted, and supported.

Hate can make us feel like we are stronger THAN, more powerful THAN, and more righteous than another, and that we BELONG with and are accepted and supported by others who also hate for the same reasons we do.

It can be hard to let go of either Love or Hate because of the feelings of power and acceptance that each bring us.
But both are veils over one's vision.
If one seeks information, knowledge, and clear perception, then one must learn to remove the veil.

Measuring Sticks : Superiority, Inferiority

Those with superiority/inferiority issues will often take certain traits about themselves or about another person and use that as evidence and proof of OVERALL superiority or inferiority.

In other words, they'll take something like being very good at mathematics as evidence of general superiority over another. Only those who are also very good at mathematics, either at their level or above, will probably be considered "equals" or "peers", regardless of their abilities in other areas.

Many people will use physical traits as evidence of superiority or inferiority; any physical trait will do. And they'll often "trade" one for another in order to maintain their own superiority.

For example, Sheila sees herself as superior to Joyce, because she's taller than Joyce. But when Simone shows up and towers over Sheila, she is forced to either concede that Simone is superior to her because Simone is taller (using her own measuring stick), OR she will hold on to her "superiority" by TRADING or CHANGING the measuring stick. So Sheila is still superior to Joyce (in her mind) because she's taller than Joyce, but Simone's height "doesn't count" because... .... her skin and hair is lighter than Sheila's... so therefore Sheila is still superior (in her mind) to both Joyce and Simone.

When a superior/inferior minded person comes across another who "beats them" in too many of their own measurements, they may either try to "take them down", or they may concede to the other person's "superiority". But it will probably not occur to them that the measuring sticks they insist on using could be wrong or unnecessary, or that they don't actually need to use them at all.

Science, Superiority, Control, Emotion, Bias

Those who are obsessed with domination, control, and/or supremacy have these things as their top priority in life. It's the filter they look at the whole world through. Since they don't know it's a filter, they tend to think they are seeing reality, and that anyone who does not see the world in the same way is either just "wrong", or is "stupid". Depending on their emotional profile, they may even feel that they are being attacked and insulted when someone's information and point of view does not align with theirs.

Those who are red-green colorblind, for example, would never know that what they see is not the full range of colors, unless someone else told them. Those who see less color than that would also not know that the world actually has more colors than they can see. So if someone pointed to a traffic light one day and described the color of each light, the colorblind person would just think they were stupid or crazy, because he or she does not SEE those colors.

The reason we even know about colorblindness is because some humans have the ability to communicate observations without ego. So instead of arguing about what colors are actually THERE, some objective humans got together and compared what they saw, and then started experimenting to find out more. Instead of countering and trying to prove who was "right", they simply communicated in humility with each other. They didn't worry or fight over who was "right", they knew they were ALL "right", and ALL "wrong" at the same time, and that not a single one of them was superior or inferior to another as whole persons.

They were not in "hierarchy" or "status" where one person is "always right" and tells the others what to think and what to see, but without that, as peers, as persons, telling what THEY EACH see, as individuals, and then comparing all of the information regardless of WHO said WHAT.

The person who sees green is not "better than" the person who doesn't see green, they're not innately superior because they can see green. They can see green, and that's all there is to that, it doesn't mean anything else about them as a person. Making their ability to see green into something bigger than it is would simply be about their DESIRE to be superior to others; it doesn't make it true.

What that does, however, is wreck their ability to remain objective, logical, humble, and scientific. Logic and objectivity can not exist under the umbrella of desiring superiority, control, and supremacy, or under the umbrella of assessing other humans as either superior or inferior. Logic has no desire, control, 'authority', power, or ego within it. It's completely objective. As soon as logic is touched by the ego, it's no longer. Logic requires humility to exist in a human, and humility is hard for humans in general, and nearly impossible for those who seek and desire control and superiority.

That's why "scientific method" was created, in order to get around "confirmation bias" and the like, although it's not foolproof; many humans still find a way to skew their own scientific results in favor of their beliefs.

(Confirmation bias is when a person sees something as proof of the beliefs they already have, instead of seeing what's actually there, or being aware that they can't see all of the information.)

Talking About Masculine And Feminine

Why is it so hard to talk about

  • men's rights
  • women's rights
  • masculinity
  • femininity
  • gender roles
  • stereotypes
  • sexism
  • sex differences
  • objective reality
  • B.S. regarding gender that's been perpetuated for eons and still is

One simple reason why it's so difficult:

Human Ego Identity

People want things to be a certain way, THEIR way, the way that FEELS GOOD to THEM.

That's why it's so hard to have a conversation in a REALISTIC, objective manner with other humans about anything related to GENDER.

Some people want their own sex to be a certain way, some want the OTHER sex to be a certain way...

It's all about IDENTITY
and
FEELING LIKE ONE HAS CONTROL OVER THE WORLD THEY LIVE IN
 and
TRYING TO MAKE SEXUAL FANTASY MATCH REALITY

Basically it sounds something like:

"I like it when MEN do such and such, and when WOMEN do something else.... so little boys should be raised THIS WAY, and little girls should be raised THAT WAY... and anyone who disagrees with me is BAD. And dumb. And stupid. And crazy. So THERE."

It also sounds like:

"Who wants to see THAT?! I want to watch THIS sex doing that job, talking about that topic, playing that sport, not the other one! It doesn't excite me the other way."

It also sounds like:

"Everyone who is THIS sex is innocent and stable, and everyone who is the OTHER sex is yucky and crazy, and has cooties!"

It also sounds like:

"If THEY can do this thing just as easily as OUR sex, just by actually learning how to do it like we did, and with someone explaining it to us and showing us when we asked how, then they'll FIND OUT that we're not all innately, naturally superior to all of them! Acckkkk!!!"

It also sounds like:

"Hate, hate, more hate, and then something that tries to sound like logic, and then more hate, and let's throw in a big helping of ego and defensiveness, with a dash of hate on top."

It also sounds like:

"Nuh-uhhh! You can't say that, or wear that! Or make those noises! Or act like that! Only WE get to do that! You're not the right sex! See? Look at the TV! You're supposed to be like that other person!"

It also sounds like:

"Whaaaa!!! I don't LIKE people who are that sex, I only like people who are THIS sex!"

It also sounds like:

"If WE don't have power over them, then THEY will have power over US!     Fight! Fight! Fight!    WHAAAA!!!
I don't LIKE cooperation or working together or fairness, I want to be the BOSS! Like my parent got to be!"

It also sounds like:

"Everyone who is MY sex absolutely sucks! I am the ONLY ONE who is GREAT like the other sex. That means I FIT IN with the other sex, they all accept me as one of their own... even the ones who usually HATE people who are my sex... and yes, I actually believe that they all accept me as one of them..for real... NO WAY do they ever talk about me behind my back..."

It also sounds like:

"I am the owner of all members of the other sex.. they all bow down to my greatness... they all want me... they all obey me...they all fear me... they all crave my sexiness...I can lure anyone's partner away from them just with a look..."

So there are real reasons....  ...(ahem, cough).... ....
why so many people have a hard time talking about conditioning, rights, stereotypes, gender roles, assumptions, projection, ego, imbalances, raising children, prejudice, competition, desire for superiority, power, control, cultural myth, sexual fantasy, and

objective reality.

Targets Of Narcissists

(Might be triggering for some people~ read at your own discretion)

"Why did he ask her out if she's 'such a bitch?' "
"Dude, because she's hot! Everybody else thinks so, what's wrong with you? Plus she's got some high level job, so she's got cash. What's not to like?"
"Umm, because he says she's a pain in the ass...?"
"Dude, so what, all chicks are a pain in the ass, especially the smart ones. It's the price you pay."

"Why does she go out with him if he's so boring?"
"Duh, because look at him, stupid! Didn't you see his eyes, and that ass? Plus he's an executive VP at a huge company. He's got like a Master's degree or something."
"So what, why doesn't she find someone she actually LIKES?"
"What do you mean?!?"

Targets that are attractive to those with Narcissism often include:

~A person whom they find physically attractive, especially if they find them VERY physically attractive.

~A person whom they think OTHER PEOPLE find physically attractive

~A person who seems to be POPULAR, well liked, accepted by a larger group

~A person who appears to be a member of a group of wealthy, famous, or powerful people (family, career, or otherwise)

~A person who seems to be wealthy

~A person who seems to have wealth and success in their future

~A person who seems to possess ability, skill, and/or talent above and beyond others

~A person whom they assume that they can control and dominate

~A person who appears to have control and power over others

~A person who possesses things that they want

~A person who has qualities that they envy

~A person who appears to be generous

~A person who gives them praise and positive attention only

~A person who appears to have access to things, places, people and opportunity that they want for themselves.

~A person who appears to have several of the above factors

People with Narcissism, especially "NPD", don't really make connections with other people just because they LIKE them, and because they have common interests. They make connections instead with people who they think will enhance their own image and their own lives.

If a person they were attracted to and were pursuing romantically or otherwise turns out NOT to have whatever it was they thought they had, or loses whatever it was (like popularity, wealth, success, very good looks), they will drop the person and go looking for a "new one".

If they were pursuing a romantic interest, for example, because they thought he or she was POPULAR, and well-liked or well-known, then if the person's popularity dropped off, or if their certain FRIENDS didn't like the person or made fun of the person, or if it turned out they were wrong about the person's level of 'fame' and popularity.... they would stop wanting to be with the person, and even 'despise' the person... as if it was the person's "fault" somehow.

They were not interested in the actual PERSON, they were interested in what they thought the person HAD, which in this case was popularity and/or fame.
They were seeking the effects of being the partner of a person who is popular, well-known, or famous.
They didn't care about the relationship BETWEEN themselves and the other person, or about the person.

The Narcissist who discards another person because they no longer find them attractive or useful will often try to blame the other person for the discard/break-up somehow, so they can avoid their motives being exposed to others.

They might be unaware that this is what they're doing; some people with Narcissism actually delude themselves, and hide their own motives from themselves by twisting the reasons for their changed feelings into something else completely, usually something about how 'awful' or 'crazy' the other person is.

However many others are completely aware, and twist the real reasons into something very exaggerated or completely fictional in order to convince OTHER people that it was entirely the other person's "fault". Smear campaigns designed to destroy a person's reputation are usually loaded with name-calling, accusations, and generally aggressive, hostile language, and are usually all about what a "nutjob" or "bitch" the targeted person is, instead of consistent accounts of events. Such as: "I just couldn't stand her bitching, whining, and complaining anymore! Whaa, whaa, whaa... when are we gonna get married... why won't you talk to me... when are you gonna pay me back...I know everything... whaa whaa whaa...and then she had the nerve to tell me I couldn't smoke in my own house"

(Sociopaths, however, with a certain level of intelligence can be skilled at telling real-sounding stories, but without actual evidence and proof, one can not tell for sure if they're lying or not. So it's best to suspend belief and judgment, and don't buy into rumors, they're usually false, twisted, or embellished anyway if they reach a third party's ear. If it wouldn't be admissible in court, don't believe or disbelieve; suspend judgment.)

Narcissists often seem to believe that their motivations and actions are normal, healthy, and indicative of being a stable, robust, intelligent human being, and that those who connect with others for reasons of the heart, reasons of kinship, and reasons of genuine friendship are either "weak", "ignorant", or "faking it".

Three Men Walk Into A Bar

Many women who grow up in communities that overtly disrespect, diminish, and belittle females will take on these attitudes and perceptions against their own sex as well. Even put themselves down, and buy into negative stereotypes about how ditzy, weak, and incompetent they are.
 (Haha, that's so funny... look at that dumb bitch... who does she think she is...look at her, trying to be all tough... look at her, thinking she's so smart...)

That's how strong the instinct is for human beings to fit in.

A person who grows up in a community where discrimination, bias, and prejudice has been normalized will often take on those biases and prejudices themselves, even if and when they're against their own race, sex, body type, or racial features, and even when they're against members of their own family.

To belong, to fit in, and to be liked and accepted by those around them means adapting to whatever the group around them does, says, thinks is funny, thinks is important, and believes. To stand up for "what's right" usually means getting rejected or attacked by the rest of the group.

So if the Status Quo in a certain community is bias against Hispanics, then anyone, including non-Hispanics, who stand up against it or who refuse to participate will be REJECTED by the group.

If the Status Quo in a certain community is bias FOR males and AGAINST females, then jokes that are disrespectful to men and boys are taken with great offense, and jokes that are disrespectful to women and girls are "hilarious".
The budget for the schools and community will be imbalanced in favor of activities, business, recreation and opportunities for males, and if anyone point it out, or even brings it up, they will be REJECTED by the group.

If the Status Quo in a certain community is bias against certain Caucasian ancestry or racial features (like Italians, or Irish, etc.) then EVERYONE "has to" go along with the bias and racism, including those who are of the ancestry, and even if that bias means they LOSE education, career, business and housing. Anyone who stands up against the bias will be REJECTED by the "group", with malice, because fitting in with the group, no matter how ridiculous and blatant the bias is, is more important to them than real values and doing what's right.

Whatever the Status Quo of the community is, that's what everyone who wants to fit in will adapt, and will NOT stand up against, no matter how ridiculously and blatantly wrong it is. Those who are USING the community's obvious bias to make MONEY for themselves will always instigate and perpetuate the local prejudices, and be the first ones to try to insult and belittle anyone who stands up against it, or who refuses to go along with it.

This is the basis for the "big picture" of Narcissism.

If there is prejudice and bias in a given community, organization, business, or other group, either sexist, racist, or any other "ist", you can bet that there is Narcissism and corruption underneath. They need the group bias to keep control and power.

Turning On Those Who Support Him

A person who turns on you when you're nice to them, when you are supportive of them, OR when you seek support FROM them is reacting negatively to specific things:
support and connection.

They seem to react when you seek their support, and they also seem to react negatively when you give them support, whether it's right away or soon after.
The common denominator is "Support".

They might perceive support itself as a threat, possibly an attempt to control them or dominate them, or as a way to show superiority, elitism, authority, or entitlement.

(They might have had a narcissist or two in their childhood who disguised control as support, or humiliated them when they either gave support to others, or sought it for themselves.)

Therefore, it's not possible to have a mutually supportive relationship with them, which means one can not have a "real" peer-relationship with them at all. Every time you seek support from them, they turn on you; every time you show support for them, they turn on you... There's not much left in the way of personal connection.

You might be able to work with them, do some activities with them, as long as it was kept on a less personal, more formal level. But intimacy or even close friendship might not be possible, since both require mutual, genuine, and open supportiveness.

One such experience a person related about this was when he inherited a rather large sum of money, and he offered to give his best friend some of it, especially in light of his friend's immediate hardships that he seemed very depressed and anxious over. Instead of his friend accepting the money gratefully or even refusing it politely, his friend reacted with disdain and disparaging comments about the man's money-sense, and then started giving him financial advice. Of course the man was shocked and hurt by his friend's very rude reaction.

After a while it became clear that the "friendship" had been based on some kind of "leader and sidekick" scenario that his friend held regarding the two of them, and when the "sidekick" friend ended up with more money, the scenario didn't hold water anymore, and so his "best friend" turned on him. HE had to be the one who was supportive and who knew "better", and the arrival of the money exposed the agenda, which the "sidekick" man was completely unaware of (but had been confused about for years).

The "support" and "advice" that the man's "best friend" had been giving him all these years had just been a display of control and ego. And now he understood WHY, when he ASKED for help and support, his "best friend" would either be suddenly too busy, or too broke, or too sick to help.

And he also understood finally why his "best friend" would somehow avoid and turn down any direct support he offered to contribute, even volunteering to repair a damaged section of a kitchen wall, or volunteering to babysit his kids.

The "best friend" had to be IN CHARGE of ALL "support" between them, and if he wasn't the one INITIATING IT, he would shut it down somehow, or completely take over so he would end up being the one 'in charge'.

Because it was never about actual, genuine "SUPPORT" or mutual connection, it was about control, power, and "status".

Hating People Who Hate

People who act rebellious against hatred, but also act hateful toward other people who don't FIT IN with their crowd at the same time, are apparently in some kind of mental and emotional boomerang pattern.
If they seem interesting and you want to connect with them, then "Proceed With Caution", or don't "proceed" at all, just keep a safe distance.

People who are in this boomerang state are often still reacting to trauma, unfairness, abuse, neglect, injustice from their own past, or from a shared cultural "story" (true or fictional, or both) that has been passed down. Staying in a state of reaction is not healing, but it does often provide a sense of personal power and independence from controllers, which is important for human beings. Keeping one's "self" and one's dignity intact is a positive; on the negative side, being a part of a group that's in a reactive state means that one is expected to abide by the group's mental and emotional tone, and the group's political and social agenda. (Which means if you don't act, sound, or look like you belong to that group, and if you don't go along with whoever the "leaders" are, you get attacked or ostracized.)

A lot of people stay in a state of reaction because they found a sense of personal power when they reached that point and/or found that group; a sense of belonging, a sense of getting respect and fair treatment, and a sense of independence, maybe for the first time in their lives. These are things that humans need to feel "real" and "effective", so it makes sense that a person would feel comfortable and want to stay in a group or state of being where they feel those things.

And for many, they have found like-minded people who "GET" them, who SEE things they see that others don't. Real and valid things about the world and about other people. They may also feel a sense of purpose and sense of mission, depending on the group and their own perception, which are also things that human beings tend to need and want as a matter of normal mental and emotional health.

So they're getting positive and normal benefits for their emotional and mental health, but they're also getting negative effects from belonging to a group where everyone has to fit in and go along with the group, or get rejected and attacked.
So whatever the "leader" types in the group say, do, and expect from others, the whole group follows in order to avoid tension and rejection, and ALSO to keep the sense of flow, cohesion, and solidarity.

Disagreement is seen as personal insult and attack;
not participating in an activity is seen as dissent, insult, or not being cool, or not being "smart", or not being "real". (ironically).

This can always be seen in various "Political" groups, in both the very large and the very small. If you don't agree with them completely and go along with their party line, agenda, and candidates, they will say that it's because you "don't get it", because you're "not one of them", because you are (pick any combination) : .... stupid, ignorant, too privileged, too poor, the wrong race, the wrong sex, the wrong religion, too non-religious, too religious, too tall, too fat, too short, too skinny, too high on drugs, too sober, too little education, too much education... from the wrong side of the tracks... too ugly, too pretty...

ANYTHING to paint you, the disagreeing person, as "NOT ONE OF THEM", and therefore "BAD" and "WRONG", in order to AVOID actually talking about whatever it is that your disagreement is about.

Being in a reactive state means a person is already reactive before anything even happens, before anyone even talks, like a wound up rubber band. So a group of people who are in reactive states can be dangerous in more ways than one, because they will often gang up on anyone who they see as refusing to go along with their agenda.

(Their agenda, no matter what it is. A reactive group might be PRO abortion, for example, or ANTI abortion, and anyone who disagrees with their EXACT agenda and line will probably be ganged up on, REGARDLESS of how courteous, considerate, kind, and fair they are, or if they have very important points that they genuinely want to discuss politely and objectively.
Because~ for the reactive group, it's not really about being Pro-abortion or Anti-abortion, it's about power, self-righteousness, and belonging to a group, all of which help a human being to feel "real", effective, and part of the world.
If it was REALLY about abortion, they would be open and willing to discuss it without hostility, defensiveness, bullying, or emotional displays, because it would be about information sharing and exploring other points of view, which are REQUIRED when trying to find real solutions or objective "truths" about anything....   Whether I believe in electricity or not, it exists; that's "truth". If I don't LIKE electricity and I don't want to talk about it with YOU because you don't agree with me, and I only want to talk to other people who don't like electricity, that's emotional reaction; it's got nothing to do with "objective truth" regarding electricity.)

HEALING from this is just a matter of becoming more self-aware, other-aware, and developing and healing one's own boundaries.

Rage And Narcissistic Injury Vs. Anger About Disrespect

"Narcissistic Injury" rage vs. standing up for one's self with an emotional expression, in simplified analogy:

This can be seen in real life if one goes to a Poker tournament or a Chess tournament, especially where the stakes are very low and the "prize" is just winning the game, not money or another significant award.

The player who suffers humiliation because he or she did not WIN the game, and goes into a rage (either a quiet, seething rage or an obvious ranting rage), is experiencing Narcissist Injury. He or she is perceiving an injury to the ego-identity as The One Who Is The Best At Chess or Poker, or The One Who Always Wins, or He/She Who Is Unbeatable, or Smartest One, or Most Skilled in the room. They are humiliated to be seen as being beaten, as losing, as not the winner.
They mentally place labels and titles on themselves and on others, so when those labels and titles are upturned, they are thoroughly humiliated, embarrassed, and angry, which they react to with rage.

Standing up for one's self would be more like showing annoyance or anger (not rage) that an opponent is cheating, or that an opponent is not playing by the rules, or that an opponent is trying to use personal attack in order to bully other players and cause them to lose focus (like sexist or racist remarks, insults about a person's family, or trying to insult a person's body, looks, or personality).

When one actually rages in self-defense regarding things such as another person cheating, bullying, threatening, or making personal insults, it may be from PTSD.
Those with Narcissism may also rage for these reasons, but they are more likely to rage in reaction to being caught or called out about doing one of them.

Psychology, Diagnoses, and NPD vs. BPD

It may help conceptually to think of "NPD" as more ego, power, and arrogance about intellect, ability, entitlement, and privilege, compared to thinking of "BPD" as more about emotion, social interaction, feelings about fairness and righteousness, and resentment. They can be seen in the same person, however BPD (borderline personality disorder) was "discovered" as a cluster of behaviors that seemed to show up together, hence the name "borderline"... the origin of the behaviors was not understood, it kind of seemed like this or that, like it was in between, so (for real) it was called "borderline", as in being on the "borderline" between different apparent disorders or illnesses.

Psychiatry and psychology are practiced theoretically. If a person's "condition" has not been tested medically and found to have a specific biological origin, then it's not being treated as a biological health problem. It's being viewed and treated theoretically as a psychological issue. In other words, not medical and organic, but more abstract.

As one psychiatric nurse in a well-known psychiatric hospital said,
"If you went to six different psychiatrists here you would probably get six different diagnoses."

Psychiatric diagnoses are not engraved in stone, they are theoretical. Neurological conditions are investigated biologically, as in looking at the brain to see if it there is disease or injury. If there has not been given a neurological diagnosis, then the client is being diagnosed and treated theoretically. It LOOKS LIKE bipolar, so here's a prescription, let's see if it works, and how well. It LOOKS LIKE BPD, so here's a prescription, let's see if it works.
It LOOKS LIKE depression. It LOOKS LIKE schizophrenia. It shows the signs and symptoms of what we have been saying is this certain condition, so we'll treat it as such.
When a person is given a psychiatric diagnosis, it's not the same as a medical diagnosis. And further, the amount of medical misdiagnoses that occur should give an indication about how it can occur, and how often, with a psychiatric diagnosis. These things need to be carried out with humility and the understanding that it's theoretical (on the medical practitioner's part AND the patient's part, and also the people in the patient's life), until it's proven scientifically with accuracy. Like a blood test for a specific chemical, for example.

All health care practitioners are human beings who have limited amounts of information, and limited ways of obtaining information. They are not gods, and should not be expected to perform like gods, to know everything, to be perfect like a god. Expectations like that (from both people as patients and individuals in the medical community) cause a lot more problems than solutions. On one side of the coin, a practitioner who sees themselves as above others is prone to make errors in judgment about colleagues, patients, and medical science or theory, because arrogance does not double-check itself. On the other side of this coin, a patient can have confidence in one's health care practitioner, because they have seen their ability for themselves, without expecting them to be perfect and omnipotent.

Facebook Users Are...

Some people on Facebook post songs, some art, some about government issues, some about animals, some about children, some about social issues, some about food, their family, their trip to Disney, some regarding their recovery from food addiction, drug or alcohol, some post sexist jokes, some post racist jokes, some post about their religion or their spiritual beliefs, some look for things they think are uplifting to post, some vent, some post the things that happen in their lives all day.

Some people go on Facebook to give themselves a brief mental break from work, so it looks like they're on it all day long to those who don't ask them.

Some people are confined indoors or immobile because of their health, and Facebook gives them a way to be in the world that they wouldn't otherwise have.

Some people post very little, and some people post a lot, and some post in-between, and not a single one of them are "wrong".

Some people hit "like" only on things they agree with.
Some people hit "like" to show that they "approve this message".
Some hit "like" to show that they actually like a post.
Some only comment when they want to argue.
Some only comment when they want to give advice.
Some only comment or hit "like" on posts of people they like, and make fun of and judge the posts of people they don't like; they're just pretending to be friends with many of their FB friends so they can look popular.
Some people don't comment or hit "like" when they feel shy about it, or are worried about another certain person seeing it who might be mean.
Some people ignore other people's messages, but pretend to be the person's friend.
Some people are afraid to unfriend someone because that person has shown aggressive or socially manipulative behavior before.
Some use Facebook to stalk or report on others.
Some use Facebook for messaging, because it's free, and to stay in touch.
Some use Facebook to meet people.
Some use Facebook to promote their craft, whether it be artwork, jewelry, photography, writing, carpentry, their restaurant, music, healing practice, etc.
Some use Facebook to promote their business or their organization.
Some use Facebook to help others.
Some use Facebook to promote awareness of their cause or their passion.
Some use Facebook to play games.
Some use Facebook to build certain areas of their (real) lives and make them stronger and better.

Some hit "like" on other people's posts for the sole purpose of showing friendship and/or support.

Everyone who's on Facebook is "using it" for SOMETHING, we're like a bunch of little kids,
so lighten up, judging what other people are using it for is frankly pretty silly.

Me, I use MySpace and Twitter...

(not really, I forgot my passwords to both...)
(that's a joke too...I don't use either one of them at all anymore, just in case someone cared ~:)

Hate Speech Vs. Abuse Support and Recovery

If one visits certain cultures where the upbringing of all the children is very different, it can look like a whole nation of "Narcissists". It's not the children's "fault", they have zero knowledge of anything outside of their culture, or their family. If they're LUCKY, and their brain has enough empathy function and cognitive function, when they get old enough they might find out what it's like in other places, that there's other ways "to be", and will be able to grasp the concepts and escape the shackles of their upbringing.
Funny this: depending on which culture is reading this paragraph depends on what other cultures they see as having Narcissism; that's what "Bias" is, and no human is immune to it.

In light of this, I feel strongly that it's time to bring something important to the forefront of the "Narc Abuse/Support" community. We talk about recovery for ourselves all the time, and support one another, and that's wonderful, it's the core of what makes these communities what they are, they're unprecedented, never before seen in the world, actual support groups for targets of Narcissism.

Pretty much everyone who has been a target of abuse, betrayal, neglect, scapegoating, gaslighting, conning, and ostracism feel ANGRY about what's happened to them, and rightfully so. Absolutely, rightfully so. Even debating whether that anger is "okay" or not is just pointless and silly, any person with any kind of self-respect or a functioning brain would (and probably should) feel some anger at some point, no matter how understanding or compassionate they are.

HOWEVER. The hate and the general bashing of people with Narcissism in general, as if they are some other species, as if this is a medieval witchhunt, is not helping anyone.

People seem to FORGET SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT, and maybe it's just people who don't have KIDS, I don't know... but the fact is, not only were ALL of these "Narcs" someone's child, but... KEEP READING... MANY Narc. Abuse targets who are ON THESE SUPPORT PAGES ended up with ONE OF THEIR CHILDREN having Narcissism.

When we bash ALL NARCS, we are including ALL NARCS, which means we are bashing some of the children of some of the people who we're SUPPOSED TO BE SUPPORTING.

Maybe if you don't have kids, you can't imagine how that might be mind-bending and emotionally twisting. (That's not an accusation, it's just a matter of standing in unfamiliar shoes).

We are all aware of how a Narcissist can manipulate a person into marrying them and having children with them, or how they can talk a person into trusting them with their children, and then they turn out to be the worst influence you could imagine on a child. SOME OF THESE CHILDREN END UP WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER TRAITS OR NARCISSISM. Not just because they "inherited the gene" for it, but because of what they were exposed to, and what they witnessed.

So, HOW EXACTLY does a loving, caring parent who has been to HELL and back get support on forums when he or she knows one of her/his own children suffers from NPD or BPD, because of the exposure to abuse? Everyone's calling their kid "evil"... everyone's throwing HATE at their child, even if it's indirectly, instead of looking for SOLUTIONS and ways to deal with it, understand it, and help.

We don't need to hold back our ANGER about what happened to us, but creating hate is not helping anyone, LEAST OF ALL those who are looking DESPERATELY for a way to help their KIDS. Everyone should know by now how hard it can be to get help, just imagine how hard it is to get help for your child (who you love just like your other children if you're a healthy, non-narc. parent), if they have BPD or NPD!?

And no, this is not a "personal rant", for those who are going to try to "retaliate" by trying to AD HOMINEM me... give it up, that crap is getting old and it doesn't work anymore. This is a real and poignant subject. I personally get email all the time from very upset parents who are trying to recover from their own abuse, trying to recover from the trauma of seeing the toll it's take on their children, and then also trying to HELP their children (including both young and adult children) recover or at least deal with their trauma, some of whom are showing signs of Narcissism.

I've actually HEARD some very Narc. "counselors" say terrible things like "That's just the way they're gonna be, you just have to quit whining about it and cut the cord." ALSO "The reason the kid is that way is because of the mother's issues, if she didn't make such a big deal out of the father's 'abuse', then the kid wouldn't have any problems at all." ALSO "The abusive behavior of the mother and the mother's boyfriend wasn't THAT bad, that kid's just a bad seed."

It gets worse than that. Kids CAN and DO develop Narcissism from the family situation they grew up in, or were exposed to, and there are people in these support communities who are dealing with ALL KINDS of effects on their children, younger or older. There are people on these forums who have been trying to deal with the effects on their children for YEARS and have made very little progress because of the lack of real help out there in many places.

So be angry as hell about what happened, be livid, stand up and shout it to the world. But please let us all REMEMBER that there are people on these forums who are PARENTS (or aunts, uncles, grandparents, and other relatives or loved ones) of people who have BPD and NPD. AND, not only that, but there are people who visit these forums who have severe PTSD who have also been diagnosed with BPD. (In fact, probably about 95% of the visitors on abuse support forums would be diagnosed with BPD if they went to the "right" psychiatrist, it's a POPULAR CURRENT TREND in the psychiatric field to throw that diagnosis on a person, and especially if that person is female. Here's to hoping that that trend is nearing it's death.)

There is ALSO the occasional person who shows up who has many Narc. traits, but just enough awareness to realize it and to seek knowledge and learning; pretty sure if they see the support community as a "hate" community it's going to deter them from learning, trying to develop empathy in the group, or joining in discussion. I've turned off groups who were obviously only interested in bashing myself, because there was no recovery for anyone, no point. Bashing Narcs, BPD's, abuse victims who aren't 'tough' enough, who aren't 'cool' enough', who don't 'fit in'.... etc.

*****

There are also people within these communities who have a lot more Narc. traits than they seem to realize (which is usually the case with Narcissism), and if the community puts Narcs in the group of "People We HATE" and victims in a group of "People who are innocent", OF COURSE a person with Narcissism is going to FIT RIGHT IN, and be right there making themselves into one of the "People who are innocent", or "People who are innocent and therefore should be followed", and "I'm one of you guys, let me in!"

*****

There are also people who seek caring and open minded support who have PTSD, who are triggered by hate-speech, even about abusers, just hate-speech period. We can't control who gets triggered, or how, but we can control the tone of what we say.

VENTING is one thing, and is essential, and is healthy. But insisting that anyone who displays immaturity or Narcissism is innately evil, that's not the same thing.

MAYBE SOME OF THEM ARE... my personal belief about that, though, which you may or may not agree with, obviously, is that most of them are not AWARE ENOUGH to implement their FREE WILL to decide to be "Evil", like the story of Satan. Most of them who seem "evil" (most, not all) might be influenced, attacked, and cajoled by evil forces. Holes in the aura, wounds where "bugs" can get in, holes in the heart that caused a person to seek solace but found it in the wrong place, or the lure of power and grandiosity (the usual temptation story). That doesn't mean we should let our guard down or feel sorry for them, it just means that their human soul is probably still in there. God's Child. Those who have chosen to "turn", well, that's their problem, unfortunately for them. All we need to do about them is gain awareness and protect ourselves from them. "Evil" is a word that's only valid if a person believes that there is such a thing, and that implies believing that there is also the opposite of "evil", which is much more powerful.

So let's keep more of the powerful stuff around. The more of it we keep and build and nurture, the more of it we have.

~~~ And just to be clear, this was NOT directed at anyone specific, not at all. There are a few people who have not EVER called Narc's "evil", or "bashed" them in general; I'm not one of them, I've totally done that, especially when I was first recovering and dealing with the immediate aftermath, and especially the LAST time. When I was able to 'lift my head up' again, I realized that it wasn't helping me or anyone else, and it was helping to pigeon hole and stigmatize human beings, some of whom I care about and WITNESSED getting "turned into" a person with Narcissism; as much as I tried to stop it, or add positive influence, there was not a damn thing I could do. (Maybe if I was very, very rich, I could have done something more, I do dream of it. But I just kept getting slapped away and attacked by the usual suspects in every case, and I've seen the same thing happen to others who were trying to help a child who was being influenced terribly by the adults in their world, including to their OWN child.)
Plus... what about the Narc. traits that my friends have, my loved ones, or that I HAVE? Should I hate myself for them, does that help? Or should I just STOP that, and learn to look at myself in the mirror without resentment, judgment, and shame that has been projected onto me for so long? Everyone has Narc. traits, we're human, but that doesn't make us "evil", nor does it make it "OKAY" to have Narc. traits. It just means we have work to do.
No one knows better than an abuse survivor how being stigmatized makes everything much worse, much harder, much LESS CLEAR.
We ALL AGREE, I think, that SOME people who have Narcissism might actually be "evil". But even if they ARE, it's still FROM something, there is an ORIGIN, a CAUSE. It would HELP ALL OF US tremendously to FIND OUT what that cause is, for real, in an objective, scientific manner. SO that we can possibly "cure" it, repair it, or prevent it, both in others and in ourselves, and in our loved ones.
We already know a lot of the origins and causes, but we don't know them all, and we don't know how to CURE it, yet. I am confident, however, that there IS a way to cure it; we'll find it eventually. If one visits certain cultures where the upbringing of all the children is very different, it looks like a whole nation of Narcs . It's not the children's "fault", they have zero knowledge of anything outside of their culture, or their family. And on that note... to everyone who visits, shares on, and supports these pages and sites, as well as the rest of the Trauma and Abuse Survivor Support Community, again I am tremendously grateful, as a survivor myself, for all that you do, and it's quite a lot. It's huge, unprecedented. I am honored to be a part of the community, every day.
And I am very honored and grateful to be a part of a community who does not shun, ostracize, belittle, or attack those whom they don't agree with, or who are "different", who just share their OWN point of view when it's not the same as someone else's, and compare notes, and learn from one another without fighting and attacking others personally over "who's right". That's getting harder and harder to find.
ANGER And Self-Awareness
Anger is not "hate". Anger is an emotion like sadness, like joy; it's normal and healthy, and often serves to wake a person up and look at what's really going on. It's an alarm that says "Hey! Something's not right!"
Anger is not RAGE. Rage can occur when a person (especially a person with weak, injured, or inflated ego) feels an ego-injury, or when a person is overwhelmed with fear and is in defense of themselves or another, or is triggered by PTSD. "Road rage" for example is often both ego and defense: self-protection AND/or domination, AND proving "toughness" or "superiority".
Anger helps us cross the threshold of FEAR, so we're not afraid to raise our head up and LOOK DIRECTLY at what's going on.
Anger is not hate, which bogs us down and eats at our own heart, and it's not AGGRESSION, which is an ACTION, not an emotion.
A person can feel sad, and behave in any number of ways in reaction to that sadness; they might just sit there and cry, or not cry, or talk about it with someone, or go into silence, or do something do distract themselves, or ask for a hug, or curl up in bed, or eat... Sadness is the feeling, not the behavior.
Anger is the same thing, it's a feeling, not an automatic behavior. One person can be very angry and barely show any behaviors at all, they might have learned to deal with their anger very effectively, which is healthy, or they might be burying it and hiding it, which is not healthy, but it would look similar to someone looking at them. Another person might instantly behave aggressively, because they don't know the difference between their emotions and their actions, or they might like the feeling of "displaying aggression", which is not "anger" at all...
Another person might retaliate against whoever they're angry at, which is not "anger", but the action of retaliation. People who retaliate will do that even when no one DID anything WRONG. They retaliate because it gives them a feeling of power and control over others, not because they're "angry".
ANGER itself doesn't dictate or control anyone's ACTIONS, no more than joy or sadness does.
When I'm feeling great joy, I don't dance in the air like Snoopy (I can't), nor do I call up every single friend on my contacts list like someone I know. Nor do I go skydiving like someone else I know. Nor do I drive my car in circles and peel out like still someone else I know.
When I feel joy, I do what I DO, and what I CHOOSE to do, not a preset behavior that "I can't help".
Just like my behavior when I feel anger. Even if I feel overwhelmed with anger, I don't smash my stuff or other people's stuff, I don't drive my car fast and endanger all the lives on the road including mine, I don't drink to oblivion or use drugs, nor do I  go screaming at someone and then act like "I couldn't help it, I was angry". I don't act like all punkish or snotty to everyone I see, either, and expect them to "deal with it", which would be entitlement and immaturity. (I did that for a little while as a teen until I grew out of it.) I have actually screamed at a couple of people in anger, and apologized for it when I realized I was not controlling my behavior and was being a jerk. I DO occasionally "lose my cool" and do something destructive like buy too many groceries or socks, or even not answer the phone when the person I'm angry with calls, but I don't STAY in that behavior, nor do I think it's "OK" just because I was ANGRY. I have to deal with the consequences that my actions caused, and apologize to anyone who I might have treated discourteously. I don't automatically go around calling people names or causing all kinds of trouble and damage, treating people like crap. I don't retaliate against anyone who "pisses me off", my emotions are MINE, and my behavior is MINE. I can't control my emotions, even when I'm upset about something that I completely misunderstood, but I CAN control my behavior, because I'm self-aware. Not to the degree of God, (or some other higher-than-human supernatural being), not even close; but even recognizing that one's self-awareness is limited is also self-awareness.
(In relative note, being judgmental and assuming about someone else's level of self-awareness is actually ego. One can't know the level of another's self-awareness, or even awareness, one can only speculate by shown behavior, and one could easily be partially or entirely wrong, since human perception and intelligence is organic, not machine, and subject to flaw, misinterpretation, and total misjudgment...So if someone who calls themselves "enlightened" or a "spiritual teacher" is going around assessing the level of enlightenment of other people, and treating them as such, either with worshipful admiration or with condescension, it's just their ego, which would mean they're not as enlightened as they think they are. But that's their problem, their journey, not anyone else's.
)
What I usually do when I'm angry is talk about it with a trusted friend, and hear their feedback about what I'm angry about. They might see something about the situation that will help me figure out how to actually deal with what's going on, and they often do. Then I can go back and deal with it for real, without making it even more complicated with my reactiveness.
(PTSD triggers are NOT the same thing as regular emotions, nor are anxiety triggers. A person may go into a red-rage if they are threatened physically if they have PTSD, or they may have a panic attack, or they may dive under a table. Fight, flight, or freeze; not the same thing as regular emotions. And it's important to note that those who are triggered to rage from apparent PTSD who REFUSE to get help are simply behaving irresponsibly and are justifying their behavior so they can keep doing it. If one "can't help it", then one definitely needs help from professionals. There is no excuse for not seeking help or justifying aggressive behavior.)
How You Need To Heal
How you need to heal is how you need to heal.
If you're worried about what you're doing to heal, that it might not be helping, then just look at it objectively again, and look at where you are.
Sometimes we need to do a certain thing for a while in order to get from A to B. When we've reached B, we might not need that walking stick anymore. Maybe there's a different walking stick, or maybe there's a bench.
The one thing we can rely on is that there's always another letter.. we got from A to B in our recovery, so we sat on the bench because it was exhausting. Then we walked from B to C, and noticed how beautiful the flowers there were, and it lifted our spirits. Then we went to D, and it was grey and dismal, and it felt like we were going to be trapped there, until something made us jump, and we got out of there and ended up at E... which was lovely, and we met a new friend there.
Whatever it took for us to get from one point to the next is what it took.
Sometimes when we get to the next letter, we look at one of our walking sticks and we realize it's been making us limp, or giving us blisters, or even giving us poison Ivy, but we didn't know why we were feeling like crap until that moment we realized it was that one stick. So that's the point we noticed it, and that's fine. So we don't need or want it anymore and we just throw it in the woods.
There's another one if we need it, they're all over the place.
Then we get to F and it's crappy again, and it seems like everything is crappy, and we're stuck here forever, and the journey has been for nothing.
Then... eventually... the sun rises, the clouds part, a good song comes on the radio, and we remember that we're on a journey, and that we've never been to G, it might be fantastic.
It also might suck.
But if it sucks, then there's always H... I... J... K...
And when we do get to Z, we start a new alphabet, one that we don't even know about yet, because we have yet to see it.
It's Not You, It's Them
If a person seems bored when you talk, don't assume it's about you. Are they happy when they get to talk, and tell you all their stories? There are a lot of people who are bored when other people talk, even annoyed. They usually have certain people who they'll listen to with rapt attention, but it's not because of what those people SAY, it's because of what those people REPRESENT to them. If you watch, you'll see the pattern. They probably only really listen to certain people who are on TV or Radio, or who are famous or well-known for something else. They're not bored with you because you're BORING, they're bored when you talk because you're not a celebrity, and they don't see you as "An Important Person". It's got nothing to do with you; it's a celebrity fixation. They are getting a neurochemical reward when they "listen to" people who are on some kind of stage, and who others listen to as well. (If you ask them about it they will probably deny it or feel embarrassed; no need; it's not about changing them, it's just about what's happening.)
Another common pattern is people who only listen to people who remind them of PARENTAL FIGURES. That can look like anything, but the usual pattern is someone who is taller, someone who has a "mature" look to their face and body, someone who dresses neatly or expensively, and people who's voice sounds "decisive" or "confident". None of those things mean ANYTHING real about a person, but they LOOK LIKE "parental figures" or even "teachers" from a child's point of view. Adults often retain this fixed point of view, no matter how smart and mature they seem otherwise. So basically, if your appearance, your height, your voice, and your face does not remind them of a PARENT, TEACHER, or other authority figure from their childhood, they will probably NOT listen to you or take you seriously. That's not "YOU", that's THEM. It's a fixed, immature point of view. You could have two PhDs in Botany Biology, and they would ignore what you say about their orchids, but listen to their neighbor about it who's never raised orchids in her life, just because she's tall and dresses a certain way. (If she has flattered them at any point, that's even more reward for them; most kids love it when the teacher gives them extra positive attention or praise.)
Another reason they get bored or antsy when it's YOU talking, or sharing information, and not them, is because they just want you to be their audience and/or their support, they don't want to have to give it BACK. They're the kid who always wants to play the same character in the game of Pretend...
"I get to be the rock star, and you be the audience!"
"But you were the rock star last time! And the time before that!"
"I get to be the rock star, or I don't wanna play."
"...okay...fine... but next time, I get to be the rock star..."
Of course when next time comes, that kid will squirm and act bored so you feel uncomfortable playing the "rock star", so you give up, and then that kid gets what he/she wanted in the first place: "Either I get to be the rock star, or I don't wanna play."
Funny how it doesn't occur to a lot of us to just dump that kid because they're not a good friend, they give us more stress than friendship. Maybe we were told to be "more understanding" of the kid when we complained about it to an adult.
And yet another reason why they don't seem to listen to you or have interest in what you say or do, don't remember important things about you, or don't seem to care about how disrespectfully they treat you, is because they have internalized BIASES, or fixed stereotypes and gender role issues.
SO... for example...only ONE SEX gets to tell stories, the other one is boring when they tell stories.
Only ONE SEX gets to be knowledgeable, the other doesn't know what they're talking about.
ONE SEX gets believed WAY TOO MUCH, and the other sex gets dismissed and disbelieved all the time.
ONE SEX gets to be "LEADER", and the other sex is just "trying to boss people around" whenever they don't act submissively, or even when they are the ACTUAL "boss" of a company.
ONE SEX gets to be "funny", the other sex is not "allowed" to be funny, and any jokes or cracks they make will be ignored, unrecognized, called "dumb", or "over their head".
If they have SEX BIAS and prejudice, they probably ALSO have other internalized biases and stereotypes based on the appearances and bodies of other people (like race, weight, height, etc.)
AGAIN, it's not YOU, it's THEM.
There are other reasons that a person will seem bored and annoyed when you talk that are more about their mental, physical, and emotional health than their maturity or personality. Like when someone is dealing with trauma or serious anxiety, they really want and need to be heard, so much that they just don't have the capacity to be a "listener".
To put it in perspective, a person who just got fired is probably not going to be in any shape to LISTEN to someone else's problems, but they're going to need someone to listen to them, to be their friend, who won't interrupt them, give them "advice", or divert the conversation back to themselves when they TELL their STORY about what happened. They need to tell their story, and be listened to, and heard. Getting fired from one job might not be a big deal to one person, but getting fired from another job might be quite traumatic for someone else.
A person could be on medication, or could be suffering from dementia, or could be scared, or have severe anxiety or depression, or have chronic or severe pain, or have a health issue.
Whatever it is, when people seem BORED when you talk, annoyed when you talk, don't remember things you say or things about you, or when they don't take you seriously (regardless of your experience or knowledge),  it's USUALLY THEIR "ISSUE", it's not about YOU. They're not giving you accurate feedback, they're reacting according to issues they have, from within themselves.
Maybe the next time someone treats you like you're boring or inexperienced, or apparently not interesting or important enough to treat respectfully, don't just notice it as far as your feelings go; take it another step further, and assess THEM and THEIR state of "boringness", instead of allowing the apparent "assessment" to be directed only at YOU. (If they're assessing you as "boring" or "not boring", "annoying" or "not annoying", isn't it only right and fair that you should return the favor?)
Will I Get Treated Better When I'm Successful?
No matter WHAT a person accomplishes, the Narcissists in their life will behave as if it's 'nothing'. They wiil continue to simply NOT acknowledge the person, their efforts, skill, talent, work, or their achievements, big or small.
If there is a Narcissist in the life of any famous, very successful, or "genius" person you can think of, you can bet they're treating them the same way. (With the exception of Narcissists who are trying to get something from them with flattery.)
Real friends are real friends, no matter how poor or rich, how famous or unknown we are, or how much success we have seen (or not).
"What's that? You won something? Oh for that little movie you made, haha, what was it called? Star something... you had some kind of giant teddy bear thing in it, right? And that guy with the mask, yeah my friend Bob makes masks like that, only his are really detailed... So I took my car into the shop today and I'm gonna need you to give me a ride when they call... What party.. what do you mean an award ceremony, why can't they just mail it to you? No I don't wanna dress up for a stupid party...I'm not paying for a cab, just make sure you're around today, I'm sure the party can wait."
Anxiety, Depression, and Feeling Ineffective
Feeling "ineffective" is one of the contributors to anxiety and depression.
One feels like they aren't really capable of contributing, of helping, of making a difference, of achieving, of building, of success, or of affecting positive change, either for themselves or others.
Projecting "incapable" and "ineffective" onto a Target is a behavior found in Narcissistic abuse.
